Hooks

Never lose a webhook

Other services send webhooks to your app. If your app is down, the event is lost. Hooks keeps each event, sends it on to your app, tries again when it fails, and lets you look at it and replay it.

Sign in to make your URL

You sign in to say whose events they are. It is free. You need no card.

How it works

  1. Make a URL. Sign in and make a source. Hooks gives you a URL that no one can guess.
  2. Give it to the sender. Put the URL in the other service. Hooks keeps each webhook it gets. You can read the headers and the body.
  3. Send it on. Add the URL of your app and verify it. Hooks sends each webhook to your app. It tries again if your app is down.

Limits

  • 5 sources for each account.
  • A body can be 256 KB.
  • A source takes 60 requests in 60 seconds.
  • 1,000 events each day and 10,000 events each month for each account.
  • Hooks keeps each event for 3 days.
  • One target for each URL. Hooks does not change the webhook.

Questions

What is Hooks?

Hooks is a webhook inbox and relay. You get a URL. You give it to the service that sends webhooks. Hooks keeps each webhook, sends it to your app, and tries again if your app does not answer.

What happens when my app is down?

Hooks keeps the event. It tries again after 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour and 6 hours. That is 5 tries in all. If all of them fail, the event is marked as failed and you get one email.

When your app is up again, press Replay. Hooks sends the event once more.

Why must I verify my target URL?

Anyone can type any URL. Hooks must not send traffic to a server that did not ask for it. So Hooks sends a challenge to your URL. Your app sends the challenge back. Then Hooks knows that your app owns the URL.

Which URLs can be a target?

A target must start with https:// and use port 443. It must have a public host name. IP addresses, localhost, private names and Hooks itself are not allowed. Hooks never follows a redirect.

Can I use Hooks with no target?

Yes. Without a target, Hooks only stores the events. You can open each one and read its headers and body. This works as a webhook tester.

Does Hooks change or check my webhooks?

No. Hooks sends the method, the headers and the body as it got them. It does not run code on them. It does not check the signatures of a service. Your app checks the signature.

What are the limits?

You can have 5 sources. A body can be 256 KB. A source takes 60 requests in 60 seconds. An account takes 1,000 events each day and 10,000 each month. Hooks keeps each event for 3 days.

Does Hooks store my IP address?

No. Hooks does not store the address of the sender. It also drops cookies and the headers that name the sender.

What does Hooks cost?

It is free.
